You touch a willing creature and surround it in a shroud of fine ice crystals. The next time the target takes damage from a creature that is within 10 feet of it, this ice explodes outwards, filling a 10-foot-radius sphere with ice. Each creature of your choice within the sphere must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 4d6 cold damage and is restrained until the start of your next turn. On a successful save it takes half as much damage and is not restrained. A restrained creature or a creature who can reach it can use its action to make a Strength (Athletics) check against your spell save DC. On a success, the creature is no longer restrained.

At higher levels

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 2nd.
